With Portuguese wine featuring so much in the press recently you may be struggling to decide what wine to buy. So we have had fun here at Glug Wines putting together some of our favourite reds for you to enjoy.

Our first choice was the Azulejo, Lisboa. This is a stunning red wine that hails from just outside Lisbon. Aged in oak barrels, and exuding the bouquet of ripe red fruits this wine is ideal to relax with after a long day, or enjoy at lunch with friends!

Next we have added Barrancôa, which won a Commended Medal at the International Wine Challenge in 2013. This is truly a delicious wine that has its origins in the Aragonez, Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet grapes. Created by Paulo Laireano the Barrancôa has aromas reminiscent of dark ripe berries along with hints of spice. Perfect with stews or game, this wine will delight the palette and leave you savouring the flavour.

We wanted to include the Herdade dos Grous because it is such a crowd pleaser. Created by Luis Duarte this Portuguese wine is full flavoured, with plummy-red tones and hints of dark berries. The 9 month ageing process in French oak gives this wine a mature taste and provides a long, mouth-watering finish. And it makes the perfect accompaniment to Mediterranean dishes and rich game pie.

Glug Wines would not be true to itself if we didn't include a wine from the Douro region of Portugal. The Sagrado Red is a lightly oaked wine that won a Gold Medal at the ENOEXPO in Poland in 2012. Made from a blend of Touriga Nacional, Vinhas Velhas, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca grapes this wine has a bouquet of mature plums, mixed with spices and again leaves a satisfying taste in the mouth. A rich ruby red the Sagrado goes well with red meat casseroles, spicy sausages or barbecued steak.

The penultimate wine that we have chosen is the Roda dos Coelhos Red, Alentejo. This 2011 wine is fruity, fresh and well rounded. Ruby in colour with aromas of ripe red fruit the Roda dos Coelhos goes perfectly with fish, grilled chicken, or spicy risotto.

And finally we have picked yet another one of our favourite red wines the Irmaos Unidos. This is a wine that will slip down easily and will tantalise your taste buds with flavours of rasperberries, blueberries, and blackcurrants. Slightly lower in alcohol content this wine will go well with lunch or pasta.

At only £89.95 for 12 bottles this is a stunning offer and one that we hope that you will enjoy!
