Glug Wines Opening Wine Tasting event with Portuguese wine producers
Glug Wines celebrated a fantastic launch evening on Tuesday 3rd March at our Winemakers dinner held at Ma Goa Restaurant in Putney. With wine producers, enthuiasts and advocates from all over Portugal, the event buzzed with passion for everything Portuguese!
The restaurants Head-Chef prepared an incredible Indian feast including Seared Scallops in topped with green herbs, Red Snapper in coastal spices & an amazing Fig & Cardamon Crème Brûlée all paired with wines/ports from Quinto do Sagrado.
Quinto do Sagrado, located near the mouth of the Pinhão River at the heart of the Alto Corgo and the Douro, has belonged to the Calem family (now in its 5th and 6th generations) for about 150 years.
Glug Wines were therefore incredibly honoured to be joined by the winemaker himself, Jose Maria Calem. Passionate and larger than life, Jose delivered an engaging speech explaining the history behind his winery and just what make Douro wines so incredible. Jose's winery use traditional wine making methods; treading the grapes by foot and aging the wines well. The Portuguese Ambassador João de Vallera attended the event. Sharing Jose's passion for Quinto do Sagrado, the Ambassador proudly shared that the US's Wine Spectator's top 100 wines of 2014, was dominated with wines from the Duoro with 3 Portuguese Duoro wines listed within the top 5. The Ambassador is a self-confessed oenophile and especially enjoys promoting fine Portuguese wines.
